Why Businesses Should be Present on Social Media: Part 1

It’s no secret that social media has become part of most people’s daily lives. It’s how we communicate, express ourselves, keep in touch with people, and so much more.

But why is it especially important for businesses to utilize social media?

Social media gives your business a personality. It makes your business more than just a name. When a customer or client is able to follow your business, it makes them feel connected. When that person leaves a comment on your social media and actually gets a response back, that makes them feel noticed. When your business runs a contest or reposts customer photos, that interaction makes people feel involved. Social media gives your business a unique voice that you can use to show your followers your personality. It allows you to be more than just a name.

It’s a free way to market your business. Think about the platforms that are HUGE in the social media world. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest. And what does each cost to use?….NOTHING. Literally a FREE way to show your business to the world and make yourself known. Even if you want to transition into social media ads and sponsorships, it’s cheaper than other advertising options. Instagram alone has over 1 billion, yes billion with a B, users. That’s a looooot of people who could be just a double-tap away from noticing your business…for free. (Many business owners steer clear of social media even though it’s free because it’s difficult to keep up with and it’s constantly changing, and that’s where I come in)

Social media helps steer people to your website. Each social media platform allows for you to share the link to your business, which drives traffic to your website. Social media is how people shop, find restaurants, review businesses, and the list goes on. The easier it is for people to get to your website, the better. For example, if I’m on Instagram and I see a shirt I love, I’m more likely to view it online and hopefully buy it if I can be easily redirected from Instagram to your website. If I can’t, it’s not likely that I’m going to leave the app, type your website in, search for the shirt, etc. Let’s face it: we’re lazy these days. Social media makes it easy for people to give you their business if you use it the right way.

These are just 3 of MANY reasons why your business should be present on social media, and I’ll be back with more next week.

And, self-plug, if you feel overwhelmed by social media, don’t have the time for it, or don’t know where to start, let’s talk! I’m here to help.
